Central Visayas

Central Visayas
The Central Visayas, located in between Easter and Western Visayas belongs to Region VII of Philippines. It has three provinces in Bohol, Cebu and Siquijor. The region is famous among beachcombers. While the island of Bohol attracts Korean tourists, Cebu is popular among Japanese travellers.
Ferdinand Magellan, the famous Portugese Navigator, was killed in the historic battle of Mactan, in Cebu province in 1521.

How to reach Central Visayas
The Central Visayas can be accessed from outside world my means of air, sea and buses. The port of Cebu is the main gateway of the island to other parts of the country. Buses operate in the manila-Cebu route passing through Eastern Visayas.
Airport - The Mactan-Cebu International Airport is connected to Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and South Korea. Domestic connectivity is also through the same terminal. Smaller domestic airports are there in Dumaguete and Tagbilaran. Both these airports are connected only to Manila.

Main Attractions
The region has been explored from sixteenth century by travellers, Ferdinand Magellan, being the most famous among them to do so.
Magellan’s Cross: This Christian Cross was placed by the Portugese and Spanish travellers, as ordered by Ferdinand Megallan in the Island of Cebu.
Magellan Shrine & Monument: Another monument for the great Ferdinand Magellan in Cebu.
Lazi Convent: This historic monument is found in the island of Siquijor.
Malapascua: The beach has sands as fine as Boracay’s. This marvellous island is situated in the north of Cebu.
Camotes Islands: A completely isolated island in Cebu, in case you want to really get away from the city.
Fort San Pedro: Situated in Cebu, this is one of the oldest fort in the country.
Chieftain Lapu Lapu Shrine: A prominent monument in Mactan Island
Carcar: An old Spanish town along the coastline of Cebu, with churches made of coral.
Moalbal: This place is divers’ paradise in Cebu.
The Loboc River: This river is famous for river cruising.
Mag-Aso Falls: Situated in Antequera, the falls have cool waters with mist, which hides the waterfalls at times.
Pangalao: Famous for scuba diving and sun worshippers.
Bohol Blood Compact Statue: The cluster of statues symbolises the blood pact made between Miguel Lopez di Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna.
Chocolate Hills: A good day trekking site to get glimpse of the endangered tarsier.
Sandugan Point & Tambisan Point: Siquijor is a peaceful and picturesque coastline. The area has certified dive operators who will take you to Sandugan and Tambisan Points, with abundant coral and marine life.
Paliton Beach: There are submarine caves where sleeping reef sharks can be found in the deep sea along this beach.

Cebu City is relatively urbanised and you will find good shopping opportunities around the area. Casinos, convention centres, golf courses and shopping malls can be found in Cebu.
Siquijor inmates are still believed to be practising witchcraft and black magic.
Bohol is dominated by hills. The interior is cooler, when compared with coastline.

Places to Stay
Cebu is one of Asia’s best islands and has a good variety of accommodation options to choose from. This island is a typical tropical island and you can stay in the midst of coconut trees, mangoes and music. If scenic beauty is what you wish for, Cebu is the perfect place. Night life is very prominent in Cebu. Dance Bars, DJs, pubs and discos are available at walkable distances.
Bohol is famous for the Chocolate Hills, which turn chocolate in colour during summer. The island is backward when it comes to amenities. If you wish to stay close to the nature, Bohol should suit you best.
Sequijor is also an option but has very few options to choose from, especially splurge ones are just a handful.
Eateries in Central Visayas
Seafood lovers should love STK ta Bay, Seafood Island, Ocean Garden Restaurant, Co Jordan etc. Best pastas can be found in Isidra Comfort Cantina, Pigafetta, Gusto etc.
If you would love some steaks, head over to Café Georg, Rodeo Grill Barbeque+, Everything Yummy and Murray’s New Orleans. Budget eateries are also available in the area, namely, Chowabungga, Silogan ni Gian and Toraja Café.
Good quality Japanese food can be found in Sumo Sam, Hamakaze Collagen, Chibori and ramen Sora.
Anzani, Feria, Café Marco, Circa 1900, blu bar and grill, Tavolata etc. are other good restaurants in the area.

Getting Places
Jeepeneys - This is the most popular and cheapest form of travel available in the area. These are basically shared taxis which are generally crowded.
Tricycles & Pedicabs - If you want to stay away from the crowd of jeepeneys, you may choose these to travel alone or in small groups.
